Leaving a remote job is odd because nothing feels physically different. It’s just you and a laptop screen that suddenly goes black, locking you out.
But I knew, in my gut, that that was the right step for me. Before I left Shopify, I was observing the AI revolution from the outside looking in. As the space continued to explode, I wanted to jump in headfirst.
So why nonprofits?
I observed how little adoption there was in the nonprofit and human services space. I saw the rightful skepticism that people had with these tools, and the confusion around how they could be ethically applied to help communities.
Mainstream narratives have focused on replacing people rather than how AI can help serve communities. I knew how powerful these tools could be, even for my own internal admin work, as long as people were given guidance and direction.
Bits & Bridges is an effort to apply human centered AI to fill in gaps in your mission where technology makes sense. Speeding up the work that slows you down or bridging barriers preventing you from reaching new communities.
Your community work is important, and my goal is to connect your ideas to the practical applications around AI so you can better serve the communities that you center.
Technology is meant to help serve your mission, not overshadow it.
And if you want to talk about what we can do together for our communities, here’s the link.
I grew up in New Jersey. Everyone who knows me knows that I joke about how I’ll never leave because of how much I love this state. I’m both excited and nervous about what’s next, but even so, I would love the opportunity to help the state that I love, by empowering nonprofits with the bits and bytes of ethical AI.
